Focus on one change with nutrition

Did you know…

Something I got wrong a lot early on in my fitness career was trying to get clients to make too many changes at once.

I had good intentions so I would push them to make the changes they needed to make in order to be successful…

The only problem was, I didn’t understand behavior modification or how humans generally operate. The advice was sound but the implementation wasn’t.

Research shows the more habits we try to change at one time, the less likely we are to sustain those changes. The first book that opened up my eyes to this subject was “Switch” by Chip and Dan Heath (highly recommend by the way).

Looking at their research, the odds of sustaining the new habit drop from over 80% when changing one thing to less than 10% by attempting to change three habits at once.

At the end of the day, I want everyone to make SUSTAINABLE progress that they can continue for years to come.

Moral of the story…

To increase your odds of maintaining new habits, put all your efforts towards fewer things at once.

It may lead to slower progress in the beginning but it will get you farther in the end!
